In virtually every sector of human life, there are a set of rules that define the interrelationships between the human being and themselves. Similarly, every profession has ethics and codes of conduct that not only guide the relationship between the employer and the employee, but also that of the employees themselves. These conduct guidelines may be set for an individual in a particular position, or a group of workers in an organization. In the hotel field, and other related fields, there even exist codes of conducts that concern the staff-customer relationship. The importance of these rules cannot be overemphasized, and their absence is a foundation of disorderliness in an organization and the driver to ultimate failure of the organization. Actually, when instituting codes of conducts, common sense should take the center stage- the golden rule is “just do what is right”. The following list presents eight concise and comprehensive examples of behavioral standards for a professional in the hotel field.

  • Obtain and uphold high levels of professional competence
  • Master and comply with all the laws that exist for your particular profession
  • Be honest and abide by agreements, fulfilling promises and refraining from avoidable disappointments
  • As a leader, treat all the employees equally and with respect
  • Allow room for development and improvement of your subjects
  • Support, protect and maintain the organization’s properties and assets
  • Mete punishments fairly and in accordance with the set criteria
  • Be responsible and take responsibility for your mistakes
