1. INTRODUCTION
I. The contributions of Alan Turing, a renowned English scientist, are regarded as some of the most significant contributions in history.
II. Despite living as a closeted gay man in a hostile society, Turing was able to divert the course of World War II with his wits, research, and his knowledge of math and science.
III. He was, and remains a force to reckon in computer building, artificial intelligence, and cryptology.
2. A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
I. Alan Turing, the prominent English scientist, was born on June 23, 1912, in Maida Vale, England.
II. At a young age of 13, while attending a famous independent Sherborne school, he began to take a particular interest in science and math (Corrigan, 49).
III. At the University, Turing showed an advanced, unique intelligence culminating in his dissertation where he proved the central limit theorem.
IV. In the years following his graduation from King's College, he studied cryptology and mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton in New Jersey
V. Turing was homosexual, a sexual orientation that was regarded illegal at the time. He admitted to his homosexuality after a break-in at his house in 1952, an admission that would cost him his dignity and taint his ‘upright' reputation.
