In the article Common Sense by Thomas Paine, the latter attempts to argue against the British Monarchy, accusing it of being oppressive and evil to the colonies. He argues in support of the American Independence from the British monarchy stating that Americans were well capable of governing themselves even in the absence of the Britons. He believes that the Britons have done enough damage to the Americans and that America has matured as a nation and is able to move forward without the oppressive influence of the Britons.
