The title of the reading is Black History/ Black Power and it indicates that the work will delve into the history of African-Americans and their struggle for equality over the years. It is authored by Lerone Bennett Jr, an African-American scholar, social historian and a renowned author. As a historian, this article falls within the author’s area of expertise. Regarding chronology, the book was published in 1972. Contextually, this is a political epoch marked by a rise in the cases of discrimination especially in terms of race in America. On this note, it suffices to conclude that the article relates with other articles published during this era as most of them are highly likely to address part, or whole, of the same issue- equality. In spite of its date of authorship (may be considered old in some contexts) the source remains ‘current’ given that it analyses history which as Bennet (194) states, is ‘everywhere’, thus, there is no time limit on history. It has always been claimed that history is a predictor of the future which implies that history has no expiry date. While the article maybe relevant in a general context, its content may still be obsolete considering other aspects within the realm of history. For instance, when addressing racism and historical injustices in the contemporary world, times have changed and so have the trends, thus, certain lessons from this article may not be applicable to the prevailing situation. As the only edition, and given the background of expertise of the author, it suffices to conclude that the source is reliable. Even so, it is important to note that credibility and reliability of an article depends on several other aspects behind a mere level of expertise of the author. The source is a written source and would fall under secondary sources since the author, apart from narrating the history of African-Americans, borrows from actual events.
