Introduction

Cyber security is the overall protection of computer data and systems from being compromised or damaged. In today’s world where everything seems to be done with computers, cyber security has become a serious study subject. Companies utilize cloud computing to store, analyze and retrieve data. Damage to this data or even unauthorized exposure can cause unprecedented damages to the firm. From losing critical data to exposing the same to dangerous groups which can use it against the company, to even potential lawsuits for the data breach.

In this particular case, the paper looks into a hacking claim, whose unprecedented damages include a pending lawsuit. Lawsuits can be expensive, just right from legal fees to potential compensation to the affected parties. It is thus critical that parties involved give the issues at a considerable thought before pushing it over to third parties for resolution. The Office of Personnel Management is the victim in this case, and as they raise concerns, there seems to be the conflict of interests in parties involved. Let’s look at the case in a more critical manner.

Explanation of the Issue

The issue, in this case, is that CyberTech is the consultant to the Anomalous, a non-US firm which has claimed that a US firm, Equation Set, attempted to hack its facilities. CyberTech has been invited to be a forensic consultant for Anomalous. However, in another hacking suit which compromised data for millions of workers at CyberTech, the company is currently consulting for is suspected to have been involved. This creates the web where CyberTech is potentially in a conflict of interest case. The concern is thus whether the firm should continue consulting for Anomalous, or it should simply severe all the relationships and focus on resolving the issue pertaining to the damage caused to the company’s OPM office, where Anomalous is a key suspect.
