Review current theoretical approaches to group living provision for children and young people
Unlike in the past where individuals who needed care received it from large scale institutionalized, where they were treated like inmate, the modern group living provision aims to provide care in an environment that feel as homely as possible and one that meet the specific needs of the residents. There are several theoretical approaches that are guiding modern group living provision. These are.
- Person-centered care- is a theoretical concept that affect the thought process and the way ever dayâs responsibilities are performed by carer. It is completely centered on those receiving the care in that designing and implementation of care process is guided by the need of individual children or young person in the group living. Under this approach, the children or young person being care for together with their family become equal partner in planning of their care and support (Social care Institute for excellence, 2019)
- Personalization â this is a theoretical approach which is based on the idea that every person who receive support or care whether provided by statutory services or funded by themselves must have choice and control over the shape of the care they receive in all care setting including group living provision (Dunning, 2008). This theoretical approach wants to reverse a trend witnessed in past whereby, residents in care setting were mere recipient of care services whether it was bad or good. It empowers residents in care setting including group living provision to have choice and control the care services they want to receive.
- Studies conducted by Wolfesberger (1975) found out that in large scale institutionalized care, residents were not only treated in an inhuman and the practice sin those institution lead to negative personal outcome. To reverse such trend, a theoretical approach known as evidence based care was introduced. This is an approach that advocate for the use of systems, processes and practice wisdom that has been proven to be effective in supporting the achievement of positive outcome for individuals being cared for.
