Socrates opposed escaping from prison on the argument that it would encroach upon his relationship and the state of Athens. That is escaping from prison would course unjust moral harm to himself, his friends his country and its laws. He also believed in the law which said violence against mother or father is an unholy act (Tarrant, 2010), and by him escaping from prison he would be disobeying his mother or father therefore unholy and against the law. He also believed that for him to be a true champion of democracy he had to confine himself and stay away from politics hence the preference to remain in conviction. Looking, therefore, in the believes he had it is evident he had no option but to remain under custody and allow himself to be executed.
