Over the years, art has been effectively used to convey certain messages to the society, in turn, influencing their thoughts beliefs and general way of life, shaping the modern world to what it is today. Works of art from different artists from across the different regions of the world were used as the medium for conveying these messages. The art pieces ranged from paintings, photographs, print, literature to now movies and television. As the current society continues to become a visual one, the value and role played by arts correspondingly increase in terms of its significance. Among the notable artists who have contributed immensely to the growth of the society through their work include Pablo Picasso, a distinguished painter, sculptor, playwright and poet, and Kate Chopin a talented author who specialized in short stories and novels. Despite the two artists using two very distinct forms of art to express themselves, both are today regarded pioneers in their own rights, throughout the world of art. This paper will, therefore, seek to establish the contributions that each made to the society and the influence that their respective art forms have had over the society in the recent years.
A majority of the stories written by Kate Chopin are geographically set in the rural areas of the Southern States of America, perhaps owing to the fact that she spent a significant period of her life in such a setting in back in Louisiana. With regard to time, the stories are set in the late nineteenth century, in an effort to represent her observations and analysis of the society that existed during this period of time.
The main topics addressed by Pablo Picasso in his paintings include women, war, bulls and guitar. Women as a topic is considered one of the main interests of the artists, as most of his well-known paintings throughout the different artistic periods portray images of the female body. For instance, the artistic period that lasted between the years 1901-1904, the blue period, is largely represented by the popular La Vie painting of 1903. Arguably the pinnacle of Picasso's work, the main characters in this painting are played by women, with only two out of the seven characters being of the male gender. Similarly, during the following artistic period, the African art and primitivism period which began in 1907 and ended in 1909, the main artwork representing the period is also one displaying female bodies as its main image. This period of time was essentially begun by his painting the Les Demoiselles de Avignon, which depicts the image of five women of African descent. The images of wars, bulls and guitars are similarly, notably frequent throughout the works done by Pablo Picasso.
